Love and Craftsmanship: The Balzani Family and Their Belt Factory
1963/64
The young Renzo Balzani moves to Sweden after military service, where he meets his wife Birgitta. Andreas and Henrik are born, and they later choose to spend their lives in Italy.
1976
With a growing interest in leather craftsmanship, Renzo begins working with a few friends in the industry, founding Cinturificio Balzani in a small facility in the Guizza district of the city of Padua, Veneto, Italy. Taking the opportunity to travel to Sweden every year to visit Birgitta’s family, Renzo starts bringing samples of costume jewelry products to Sweden during summer vacations with his family, helping small Italian companies expand into the European market.
1980s
The company begins renting premises next to a bag-making company in Padua, and Renzo’s son Andreas becomes a minor shareholder. Renzo also starts bringing his own belts to Sweden and Norway, gradually strengthening relationships with Nordic customers.
1988/89
Due to space limitations, Cinturificio Balzani relocates to the industrial area of Maserà di Padova. Andreas, now in his twenties, starts working in the company, taking on increasingly significant responsibilities.
1990s
Henrik also joins the company as soon as he comes of age. The family business, strengthened by its knowledge of the Swedish language and a point of reference for Made in Italy products for European companies, begins collaborating more closely with key clients, including Saddler, significantly increasing belt production.
2000
Renzo and Birgitta retire, leaving the reins of the company to their sons Andreas and Henrik, although they remain by their side.
2015
With an increased workload, the company moves to Ponte San Nicolò, about half an hour from the Riviera del Brenta, a region known worldwide for leather craftsmanship and the highest quality products, which had always somehow inspired Cinturificio Balzani’s philosophy and way of working.
2024
Cinturificio Balzani becomes a single-member limited liability company (SRL) with Andreas Lorenzo Balzani as CEO. Today, the company collaborates with key clients and wholesalers in Austria, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Italy. From 1976 to the present, the tradition of craftsmanship and the quality of the products have remained the same, and the long-lasting relationships with clients testify to the company’s value.
